“We are Khmer.. No matter wherever we are, we shall know our identity by not allowing other enemies breaking our nation”, this was a song sung by PUC students of faculty of history, and Khmer Studies.

Yesterday afternoon, Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia hosted by Professor Sambo Manara organized an event named Tevea Khmer at Srey Dim Conference, South Campus. The purpose of the day is to show our respect and gratitude toward our Khmer ancestors. It is also an aim to teach student to keep their respect and gratitude to everyone who do good, especially relatives and parents.

There were many interesting programs including: Khmer performance in the 3 regimes: Chaktomuk, Longvek, and Angkor; song and plays; classical music, Khmer boxing-khom; and A short video clip about Prasat Preah Vihear temple.

Yesterday event was not new to the audiences, since it has been done since 2002. “We never miss to celebrate this event. It means that we want everyone to remember, to stick with our culture and identity as Khmer.”, said Professor Sambo.

Tevea Khmer is not only for PUC students, but for everyone as Khmer. Mr. Heng Vattanak who is an economics student from Royal University of Law and Economics was impressed by this event. He said it was his first time to be there with his friends. He was so proud to see everyone dress in different cultural attire. It really showed our identity as Khmer. After that event he intended to inform his parents and neighbors about this unforgettable event.

Ms. Chea Srey Mom, a year 2 student International Relations noted that the Khmer have had high civilization compared to other countries. She added that we shall maintain our culture by continuing to support our art, music, and other performances.

His excellency Veng Serey Vuth closed the ceremony with a meaning phrase “It is everyone’s duty and responsibility as Khmer to maintain our heritage.”
