ASSOCIATE’S DEGREE OF EDUCATION,
MAJORING IN TEACHING ENGLISH TO SPEAKERS
OF OTHER LANGUAGES (A.Ed. in TESOL)

PROGRAM PURPOSE

This program prepares students for a variety of classroom situations in English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) settings. It is committed to providing quite broad knowledge and skills in English language, and basic knowledge of humanities, sciences, and social sciences. More importantly, it aims to develop students’ competence in English language teaching in different English classroom settings.

GRADUATE COMPETENCIES

Graduates of this program will have demonstrated:

  1. knowledge of English grammatical structures, language functions, discourse and teaching methodology
  2. the ability to apply their general knowledge and pedagogical skills in real classroom contexts, especially within Cambodia
  3. the ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English
  4. the ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in their professional field and in their real world living situations
  5. the ability to plan, analyze, and reflect upon their teaching and to evaluate student learning experiences
  6. the ability to continually upgrade their teaching profession to catch up the global development and technological advancement for their students’ better welfare.

CAREER PROSPECTS

The students will be able to work in the role of English school teachers from a pre-school to high school, school directors, translators, testing officers, educational consultants, tourist guides, school supervisors, researchers, as well as a myriad of other professions. The students will also have opportunities to win scholarships to study abroad.
