M.Ed. in TESOL

Description

This program is committed to providing a broad knowledge base in these areas: linguistics, second language acquisition processes, social and cultural factors in second language learning, current theories and methods of second language teaching, testing and evaluation, research methodology, discourse analysis, curriculum and materials design, advanced TESOL methods, etc.

Career Prospects

The students will be able to work as university professors, curriculum designers, researchers, supervisors, department heads, test designers, etc.

Program Goals

Students who have completed the TESOL M.Ed. program should be able to:

  1. demonstrate a high level of competence in the management and teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), English as a Second Language (ESL), and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL);
  2. demonstrate a superior knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of TESOL;
  3. have an understanding of the theory and practice of research in TESOL;
  4. make effective use of the findings of educational writings and research in addressing TESOL-related professional problems; and
  5. have the depth of knowledge and understanding that will enable them to be a resource for colleagues in TESOL-related professional situations.

M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Leadership

Description

This program is designed to prepare future leaders and managers in education. The learners will be equipped with knowledge and skills required for leading and managing effective educational institutions. The program covers research in education, educational psychology, educational ethics, educational leadership and management theories and practices, instructional leadership, curriculum development, human resource management, financial and material resource management, student affairs & services, IT in education, testing and evaluation, strategic management, etc.

Career Prospects

The students will be able to work as school principals, curriculum designers, school financial managers, academic deans, human resource managers, supervisors, directors of student affairs & services, professors, researchers, etc.

Program Goals

Students who have successfully completed this program should be able to:

  1. confidently discuss various educational leadership and management theories and practices;
  2. formulate an educational leadership and management framework applicable to their educational institution contexts;
  3. successfully integrate information technology into their educational system;
  4. design, implement, and evaluate curricula and teaching materials;
  5. effectively manage their institution’s resources: human, financial, and material; and
  6. conduct effective, independent research in education.

II - Admission Requirements for M.Ed. Programs

A, Required Documents and Tests

B, Interview

All M.Ed. applicants are required to have an interview at the Faculty of Education. The Graduate Programs Coordinator will call the applicants for interview appointments after the application documents are sent from the Academic Program Office (APO).

C, Advance Standing

  • Applicants can request credits transfer for a relevant Master’s program that he/she undertook in an accredited higher education institution.
  • Applicants with extensive experience relevant to the field of study may petition for advance standing.

The applicants shall submit a request for credits transfer to the Dean of the Faculty of Education with all supporting documents
