Early Childhood Education (A. A. Ed. in ECE)

Program Purpose

The associate degree in Early Childhood Education (60 credits) is a two-year program  designed to prepare ethically-grounded, competent, and innovative early childhood education  professionals who advance equitable access to quality early learning experiences for all  Cambodian children, particularly those from marginalized and vulnerable communities. The  program aims to contribute to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s (RGC) goal to make ECE  accessible to children aged 3-5 throughout Cambodia. The program will prepare graduates to serve  as early years teacher, teaching assistant, social worker, special educational needs teacher, family  support worker, special educational needs assistant in public and private preschools and to provide  guidance to ECE programs. Furthermore, by offering a curriculum that is standardized to regional  best practices, the program will help to upgrade the quality of ECE in Cambodia, while also  preparing graduates to successfully address market needs within the broader ASEAN community.

The A. A. Ed. in ECE program includes a balance of theory, research, and practice. It will  enhance the learners’ knowledge and skills in child development, ECE curriculum development,  ECE pedagogy, and child-friendly classroom design and management. It will focus on the development of the whole child, including physical, intellectual, social, and emotional  development. It also aims at building ethical and moral character of the learners. In addition, the  graduates of this program will be prepared to research and analyze the effectiveness of curricula  and pedagogy.
