The Community Services Learning Center (CSL) was established for the necessary training to develop and implement service-learning courses at the university and assist community needs. It was created in August 2003. The mission of the Center for Community Service-Learning at PUC is to support faculty in the utilization of service-learning pedagogy and engage students with current community issues through service projects which enhance the learning goals of specific courses. The Center assists faculty in identifying the appropriate community agency partners and in the placement of students in appropriate community service learning activities. In addition, community agencies are provided training and assistance in developing quality service-learning environments for PUC students.
On January 14, 2012, the Community Service Learning Center within Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC) conducted its 8th Annual PUC Charity Event aiming to raise funds to support Happy School, Metta Karuna Foundation and People Improvement Organization. It has been reported that Happy School has 70 children, Metta Karuna has about 150 children and People Improvement Organization has less than 300 children.
The 8th Annual PUC Charity Event was presided over by Dr. Kol Pheng, PUC President and attendees included PUC top leaders, faculty, students and Dr. James Primm, a Hawaii Pacific University representative accompanied by HPU students, accounting for no less than 400 people.
In the open remarks of Dr. Kol Pheng, he highlighted that a small amount of our contribution to the event will make a big change for the lives of needy children. He has personally contributed $500 to the event for those children to get things to supply daily life.
Lastly, Mr. Sarim Mardi said he was originally thrilled and encouraged to see the smile of those children which pushed him to endeavor for following years to conduct the event for other organizations. He continued to say this event raised much more funds than the past years. He also wishes to see our participation in following years to make a positive difference.
