Report on the International Speech Contest
by International TM Club at PUC Srey Dim Conference Hall

The International Speech Contest organized by PUC Toastmasters Club took place last Sunday, October 17, in the Srey Dim Conference Hall of Paññāsāsta University of Cambodia. In the opinion of the members of the executive committee, overall the contest was a success.
The total number of people in the audience was approximately 535 people. This was more than the amount we expected. The contest went smoothly, although it ran over time with the addition of some added segments. All the contestants showed up and conducted their speeches successfully. Ultimately, we found that Toastmaster Tham Chanputika, the champion of Table Topic Contest under a topic of “My brother”. For the International Speech Contest, the winner of the speech contest was Toastmastesrs Keneth Robinson. The first runner-up was Toastmsater Leng Chorlida, and the second runner-up was Toastmaster Seng Thearith.
Students commented that the contestants were very well prepared and they all spoke with confidence. They learned a lot of things from those speeches. Moreover, they really enjoyed the entertainment session which was performed by a team from the Paññāsāstra Student Senate. They really liked the role play, “A student should not have a sweetheart” as well as the guitar performance by Mr. Din Pichar, Mr. Din Sithika, and Mr. Sorn Sithpeitu. At the end of the contest, Eung Chily made an impassioned plea for everyone in the audience to donate money to Chheang Sokunthea who lost her family in a traffic accident recently.
Dr. Raymond Leos conducted the closing remarks and presented the trophy to the champion of the Table Topic Contest. In addition, Ms. Bonnie Op, the general controller of Paññāsāstra University, attended and presented the trophy to the champion of International Speech Contest. The President and Vice-President of Paññāsāstra Student Senate as well as some professors, PUC staff, and UNDP Toastmasters members attended were also in attendance.
The executive committee’s request is that Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia allow PUC Toastmasters Club to organize another International Speech Contest here in the next six months. We think we are capable of organizing an even more exciting and entertaining competition based on our experience from this past Sunday. We believe that this would be beneficial for PUC students as well as promoting public speaking at PUC. In addition, would like to ask PUC for a room for PUC Toastmasters Club’s office so that we can work more efficiently. This office would be a place for our executive members to meet, allow for better coordination of marketing and promotion, and be a permanent place where our mail from PUC Toastmasters - America could be sent.
The executive committee wishes to thank our sponsor, Dr. Chea San Chanthan for allowing PUC Toastmasters Club to conduct the International Speech Contest at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia.
