Executive Summary
Siam Cement Foundation Scholarship for SEA countries

Project Title

A Southeast Asian Scholarship Program for M.A. in International Development Studies at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.

Project Description

The Master of Arts Program in International Development Studies is committed to facilitate a Scholarship Program to enable qualified prospective students from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to study at the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.  Upon completion, graduates are expected to return to their home countries and contribute to the progress of their respective countries.  The scholarship fund makes it possible for qualified students from the afore-mentioned countries to travel and live in Bangkok while attending the post-graduate program for a 14-month period.

Project Justification

The program offers an intensive post-graduate interdisciplinary program to deal with the complexity of development in the new era.   Students will be exposed to theories and practices of development based on experiences within and outside the region. The program provides teaching and scholarly interactions from various development networks and international development organizations based in Thailand.  Most qualified candidates from Southeast Asia are in need of financial support.  It is recognized that the investment in higher education for students from neighboring countries not only contributes to bridging development gaps but strengthens ties between Thailand and its neighbors.

Project Results

Well-trained and critical minded graduates with an M.A. in International Development Studies from Chulalongkorn University.  Upon completion, we expect scholarship recipients to work on development issues in their respective communities.  Through time, a network of alumni will gradually emerge in the region.
