Day 2 – Tuesday, June 30, 2009:  PUC South Campus

 

8:00 – 9:00 a.m.          Plenary #3:  Benefits of Service-Learning by Ms. Judy Botelho, Director of Community Engagement, California State University, Office of the Chancellor, and Ms. Jeannie Kim-Han

9:00 – 10:00 a.m.        Track Session #1:  Making the Most of Service-Learning – Understanding how to utilize service-learning and its benefits as an administrator, faculty member, community partner and student.  Participants are separated into one of these four working groups for this session.

1:15 – 2:40 p.m.          Plenary #4:  Overcoming Barriers & Challenges:  Panel Presentation to understand the types of challenges and barriers that may come up in implementing service-learning and to provide examples and suggestions of ways to overcome those issues.

Panelists:  Ms. Dawn Macy; Mr. Sarim Mardi, PUC Director for Community Service-Learning & Internships; Dr. Anita Pattnaik, PUC Dean of Sciences; Dr. Saul Tobias; and Cambodian NGO Representative

 

2:45 – 4:00 p.m.          Team Meeting #2:  Meeting with USA Mentor Coaches – Identity and discuss resources necessary to overcome challenges and barriers to service-learning.  Work on Institute Planning Workbook.

 

4:00 – 4:15 p.m.          Break

 

4:15 – 5:30 p.m.          Track Session #2:  Service Day Preparation:  This session will be an overview of Wednesday’s activities.  Participants will meet in same tracks as in Track Session 1 with the same leaders.

Day 3 – Wednesday, July 1, 2009:  Cambodiana Hotel

8:00 – 8:30 a.m.          Plenary #5:  Purpose & Meaning of Service Day Project by Mr. SARIM Mardi &
                                     Ms. Jeannie Kim-Han–
Overview of activities and preparation to leave.

8:30 – 12:30 p.m.        Service Projects at Various NGOs– Bussing is provided from Hotel Cambodiana for this activity.  All                                      Institute participants should meet at the Hotel Cambodiana by 8:00 a.m.

12:30 – 2:00 p.m.        Lunch (Tonlé Bassac Restaurant)

2:00 – 3:00 p.m.          Personal Time & Clean-Up

3:00 – 5:00 p.m.          Track Session #3:  Service Day Reflection & Debrief – We will reflect on the service day’s activities and                                      model different types of reflection strategies to be utilized with students.  Participants will meet in same                                      tracks as in Track Session 1 with the same leaders.

Day 4, Thursday, July 2, 2009:  PUC South Campus

 

8:30 – 9:15 a.m.          Plenary #6:  Institutional Action Plans – Taking It Home! by Ms. Jeannie Kim-Han

 

9:15 – 10:00 a.m.        Team Meeting #3: Complete Action Plans - Meeting with USA Mentor Coaches – Complete Institute Planning Workbook with assistance of coaches to develop action plans to implement service-learning at home institutions.

2:00 – 4:00 p.m.          Track Session #4: Various Topics

 

Administrator Track – Institutional Leadership – Ms. Jeannie Kim-Han and Dr. Anita Pattnaik – This session will discuss ways to develop institutional leadership necessary to support high quality service-learning programs.

 

Faculty Track – Course Syllabi Construction & Working with Community Partners – Dr. Rick Battistoni; Dr. Kathy Brzovic; Mr. Arnold Holland; Dr. Saul Tobias; and Dr. Ruwan Hulugalle, PUC– This session will help faculty develop course syllabi taking into consideration how to work with community partners.

 

Community Partner Track – How to Create an Infrastructure to Support Service-Learning at Your NGO – Ms. Dawn Macy; Mr. Daniel McQuaid; and Mr. Mech Sokha, CCH – This session will help community partners determine what tools and strategies are needed to gain maximum benefits from service-learning students.

 

Student Track – Starting Small:  Next Steps to Developing a Student Leadership Program on Your Campus – Ms. Judy Botelho and PUC Students– This session will help students to identity concrete steps on how to work with other students in creating a community service-learning program on their campus.

4:15 – 5:15 p.m.          Team Meeting #4- Meeting with USA Mentor Coaches - Completing the Institute Planning Workbook and Developing a presentation for the Friday morning session on how your team will develop and implement a service-learning program at your campus.

6:30 – 9:00 p.m.          Cocktails & Dinner

 

Day 5, Friday, July 3, 2009:  PUC South Campus

 

8:00 – 10:00 a.m.        Plenary #7:  Team Presentations – Each university team will give a short 10 minute presentation on how they will be implementing service-learning at their home institution.  This is a TEAM Presentation.

 

10:00 – 10:30 a.m.      Break

 

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.      Plenary #8:  Reflection on Institute Experience – Ms. Dawn Macy and Ms. Jeannie Kim-Han – This session will be a reflection on the institute experience and serve as closure for institute activities.

 

11:30 – 12:30 p.m.      Closing Ceremonies – Ms. Jeannie Kim-Han and Dr. Chea San Chanthan
