Annual Kathina Ceremonies

 

The Buddhist Academy of Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC) is once again organizing our Annual KATHINA CEREMONIES, as we have done every year for the past seven yearsto raise funds for a cause. This is one of the many events and activities that PUC has proudly planned and committed on an annual basis, as part of our socially conscious responsibilities to the society. It is also an excellent model of activities for our faculty, students and staff, along with family members, to “join together” to develop and to practice good citizenship and community leadership.

 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank many of you who participated in generously giving contributions to last year’s Kathina, during which we raised over USD2500 to help fill the needs of Wat Chumpou Prek in Sa’ang District, Kandal Province. Parts of the funds were used to buy: (1) Books, pens and pencils for children and young students in nearby villages schools; (2) Foodstuff and clothing for poor elderly and single mothers in nearby villages.

 

This year, we are privileged to organize our annual Kathina to help raise funds to build a Cambodian Buddhist Monastery in Lumbhini, the Buddha Birthplace, near India-Nepal border. This monastery, once built, will serve as a room and board for many Buddhist scholars and followers who make pilgrimage to the Buddhist holy sites in India and Nepal every year.

 

Students, Staff, and Faculty members - along with their parents, families and friends - are cordially invited to join us at these traditional Annual Ceremonies, which will take place as follows:

 

When:  Sunday, November 4, 2007 starting at 2:00 p.m.:

 

  1. Traditional procession led by Dr. Kol Pheng, PUC Founder
  2. Buddhist rites led by Buddhist Monks
  3. Monetary contributions will be collected at this time

Where:  PUC South Campus, 184 Preah Norodom Blvd, Phnom Penh

 

NOTE: The Renowned Buddhist Master Buth Savong will be our Guest Speaker

 

We hope everyone, as a member of the Paññāsāstra Family, will stand together to help build PUC's name and reputation as the premier socially conscious institution of higher learning in Cambodia. Hence, we request your active participation in this important event, as well as in any future events and activities of similar nature.
