Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC) proudly presents a public lecture by Marthe Hoffnung Cohn, a WWII hero and author of several books discussing her eventful life, especially her work in the French resistance against Nazi occupation in World War II. One of the best known of these books is Behind Enemy Lines: The True Story of a French Jewish Spy in Nazi Germany.
Mrs. Cohn has lived in several countries, including France, the US, and Cambodia, working in the medical profession in various capacities, notably as assistant to her husband, Major L. Cohn, a medical doctor. In this work, Mrs. Cohn published a number of scholarly papers. In the period 1946-1948 she was a nurse in the French Army in Indochina (Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam), and had lived 9 months in Phnom Penh. During World War II, several members of her family died in Nazi concentration camps. Mrs. Cohn has received numerous medals and distinctions for her work on behalf of freedom and democracy, notably the French Croix de Guerre, with two silver stars, and also the Medaille Militaire, conferred by French President Jacques Chirac (1999) and the medal of Valor by the Simon Wiesenthal Center (known for its work on tracking down Nazi war criminals). Mrs. Cohn also received the order "La reconnaissance de la Nation" (for services rendered during World War II.)
Mrs. Cohn has lived an extraordinary life. PUC is fortunate to be able to share in these great adventures through Mrs. Cohn's public lecture on campus. The event will take place on Monday, November 28, at 6 p.m. in Srey Dim Conference Hall at PUC South Campus on Preah Norodom Blvd (South of Independence Monument). She'll also conduct a similar lecture at PUC Siem Reap on November 30, at 6 p.m.
The event is co-sponsored by the PUC Faculty of Social Sciences & International Relations and Faculty of Communications & Media Arts. It is open to the general public.
