English
is now the dominant language spoken by over a billion people. There
are nearly as many people who speak English as a second language as
there are native speakers. All of this is having a profound effect on
the language and how it is perceived around the world. This presentation
looks at the different contexts and countries in which the language
dominates education, pop music, advertising, and the Internet. It explores
the pros and cons of this dominance and the ways in which it is actually
changing the language.
