Mission
An American
Corner is a joint partnership between the United States Embassy
and a host institution of a host country that promotes better
cooperation and understanding between the United States and
that host country through the exchange of open, accurate, and
factual information about the United States in variety of formats.
II.
Background
American
Corners were first established in Russia in 2000. Now there
are around 196 Corners operating over 28 countries in Europe,
Asia, and Africa and 86 that soon will open. In the Asia and
Pacific Region, there are 42 operating Corners and another 10
underway.
There are currently two American Corners in Cambodia: one located
at Paññasastra University of Cambodia (PUC) in
Phnom Penh, and another at the Khmer Institute for Democracy
in Kampong Cham province.

Function
American
Corner is established to provide information about United States
history, government, society, and values to the general public
of host country.

Resources
1. Collection
American
Corner features a diverse collection of English language books
and materials focusing on the United States. The collections
provide current and reliable information on various subjects,
including American studies, history, culture, business, literatures,
law, politics and democracy. There is also information on English
teaching and learning, studying in the U.S., including student
advising materials, and links to university admission and scholarship
websites. Information on TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT and other standarlized
tests and exams are also available. The collections also offer
poster exhibits, CDs, videotapes, periodical materials and access
to several electronic databases.
2. Internet
Access
American
Corner at PUC has several computers available for Internet Access
and electronic database.
3. Television
American
Corner has television with cable hookup for patrons to access
world news, discovery and documentary movies.
V. Services
American
Corner staff can help patrons to find answers to questions about
the United States and guide the students who wish to study in
the United States to the right Websites concerning student visa,
school information and admissions, qualifications, and requirements,
etc.
